Bereavement

Having provided you with love and affection throughout their life, grieving and mourning the loss of a much loved companion is perfectly normal. Pets play such an important role in our lives that it can be difficult to move on in the grieving process.

There are lots of organisations with information available, such as Jane Matthews, author of Losing a Pet, who produced an informative bereavement leaflet – a useful guide about how to deal with the effects of bereavement.

This leaflet is available for download here, alternatively copies are available from us, veterinary surgeries and pet bereavement counsellors.

However, we are aware that sometimes this just isn’t enough and we are able to provide further support via the Pet Bereavement Support Service which provides practical help and emotional support for pet owners via a confidential telephone line or via email.

The contact details are: 0800 096 6606 or email: pbssmail@bluecross.org.uk

This service is run by the well-known animal charity The Blue Cross alongside SCAS, and is run in accordance with the member guidelines for the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy and the Helplines Association.
